Environmental Friendliness |
|
The most environmentally friendly roofing material would:
►
be of 100% recycled
material content
► use no wood or non-renewable resources
►
consume little energy in
manufacture or distribution
► provide significant
energy savings to homeowners
►
insure long life performance
►
be safely disposed of at
end-of-life
Unfortunately, recycled materials generally have unknown
histories and therefore unpredictable performance. The finished
roofing product that uses recycled materials has a built-in variable which
usually first “surfaces” as color inconsistency.
This color variance
translates to patchwork color patterns on the roof determined by the
care and artistic discretion of the roof installer. Manufacturers, distributors and
roofing contractors attempt to minimize this variance by mixing or shuffling
bundles on the roof but this is difficult and time consuming, frequently
resulting in less than satisfactory roof appearance.

AND THE ENVIRONMENT |
|
Ce·DUR Shakes contain a significant and precisely controlled amount of
recycled glass material as a very effective filler and UV absorber. The
glass used is color neutral and chemically inert even at the elevated
temperatures seen on the roof in the summer months. Color and shading is
carefully controlled by precision computerized metering and high pressure
mixing of pigment into the chemical raw material blend just prior to
injection into the forming molds. As a result, the pigment, and therefore
the color, is thoroughly and completely dispersed throughout the product
instead of surface applied with coatings or treatments that show limited
life performance or high maintenance.
This patented material formulation (DURATHON) employing balanced use of both
virgin and recycled materials coupled with a unique
manufacturing process (reaction injection molding) provides Ce·DUR
Shakes with the advantage of recycled content without the need for
impractical on-the-roof sorting, mixing or installation of shade or color
varying pieces.
Ce·DUR’s
unique cellular structure and chemical formulation are the major factors in qualifying the product
as environmentally friendly. Ce·DUR:
